The medias used are an ink outline, then the colours are built up in watercolour, 

and watercolour pencil is added to create tone and texture.

The first step was the ink outline. I focused on the size of the buildings and

people first, and then built up the plants and ground around them.

The shapes of the people were important to capture,

as this is what creates character and style in Vaeth's illustrations

I then added the layers of watercolour. I started with the lighter blue,
green and reds of the background, and then
built up colours on the plants, buildings, furniture and people. 

Finally I have added the black, red and brown watercolour

pencil marks to darken areas such as the buildings and plants. 

The pencil marks also create texture.
